When Montessorians visit the Netherlands, they often wish to include a visit to a Montessori school when in the country. AMI does not assist in scheduling school visits in the Netherlands, so all requests should be to the individual schools directly. When making your travel plans, please take into consideration the holiday breaks in the Netherlands for Montessori schools.

You can find details of Montessori schools in the Netherlands on the Nederlandse Montessori Vereniging (Dutch Montessori Association) website's school locator at https://montessori.nl/scholen/ (note that this website is in Dutch).  It is recommended to contact them well in advance to schedule visits.

AMI is always looking to expand into new territories and if you are interested in opening an AMI Affiliated Training Centre in a new territory, we would like to hear from you.

When considering such an initiative, it is important to know that the work of running an AMI Affiliated Training Centre combines many different elements such as strategic planning, community building, communication and collaboration with other members of the AMI community, both locally and globally.

In addition, some other factors to consider are the availability of a Director of Training who is able to lead the courses courses in your territory, as well as local AMI Diploma Holders who may be willing to apply to undertake the AMI Training of Trainers programme.

When reviewing applications we will look for strong alignment with AMI’s Values and Strategic Goals, as well as a focus on building a sustainable AMI Community in the proposed territory.

If you have additional questions relating to opening an AMI Montessori Training Centre, please provide further details and submit an enquiry by clicking on the following button.

Those interested in opening a Montessori school, should first reference your local and national education and care regulations. You may also wish to contact your country's Montessori association for further information and assistance.  AMI recommends employing trained, qualified Montessori staff to ensure a faithful implementation of the principles and practice of Montessori education.

AMI does not provide direct information or support in opening a Montessori school.

An AMI affiliated society and an AMI affiliated training centre are two separate entities; they often work together, but they have very different roles within the AMI organisation. The society promotes Montessori education and works to build a strong and viable network to support the foundation and expansion of Montessori education. The training centre, on the other hand, is concerned with teacher training programmes and courses. The two organisations work together, and in some instances, there may be an overlap in the general sense as they collaborate to bring the value of Montessori education for children to the attention of parents and the public.

It is important to note that an organisation applying to affiliate with AMI must be established and registered under the laws of the country it is in. It cannot be a school or training centre, but a separate entity with the aim of promoting Montessori education in the local and national communities.

In order for an affiliation request to be considered by AMI we require a short summary from the prospective group, which will then be reviewed by the Affiliate Coordinator. If approved, you will then receive an official application form and subsequent interviews will be arranged.

To find out more on the work of the affiliated societies, please visit our website page here.

Currently the Association Montessori Internationale is working on an ambitious 'Global School Accreditation' programme, to offer schools worldwide mentorship, support and accreditation. A slow roll-out is envisaged, starting on a gradual country-by-country basis in 2022. In the interim, for schools in the USA and Canada, there is an existing AMI School Recognition programme that will remain in place until the roll out of the Global School Accreditation.

AMI’s outreach division, Educateurs sans Frontières (EsF), connects and supports changemakers and initiatives committed to advancing human development and promoting the rights of children. EsF focuses specifically on supporting children and communities in under-resourced regions and contexts. The EsF network includes people from many countries, backgrounds and fields of expertise. It supports and inspires the application of Montessori principles to create a better world for all children, irrespective of race, religion, political and social beliefs.

On the EsF website https://montessori-esf.org you can find more information on EsF’s history, work and initiatives. The website also provides information on how to get involved and become part of the EsF network.

Montessori for Dementia and Ageing supports improving the quality of life for elders, promoting the principles of dignity, meaningful engagement and independence throughout life. Montessori for Dementia and Ageing is an innovative approach to dementia care that can be adopted for individuals or groups as a philosophy of care. The goal of the Montessori program is to support older adults and people living with dementia by creating a prepared environment, filled with cues and memory supports, that enables individuals to care for themselves, others, and their community. It strives to develop communities that treat individuals with respect and dignity and honour their choices so that they may live as independently as possible.

Please visit the Montessori for Dementia and Ageing website for more information at https://montessoridementia.org

Traditionally, AMI organises its Annual General Meeting in April, which provide great opportunities for deepening knowledge, catching up with the latest developments of our work, and strengthening the Montessori global network. The past two years they have moved online due to Covid, and we are likely to continue offering online programme elements into next year.  Events are listed on our website at https://www.montessori-ami.org/events.

In addition, we host online AMI Talks – where we match speakers with a deep Montessori knowledge of a particular subject with an “outside” presenter who will be offering additional and fresh insights.  You can see scheduled AMI Talks and recordings of past ones at https://www.montessori-ami.org/about-ami/ami-talks.

Our Educateurs sans Frontières (EsF) team also organise various online events, such as Voices of EsF, and post many podcasts and interviews with changemakers across the world via https://montessori-esf.org

The international Montessori Congress takes place every four years – each time in a different part of the world. Our last congress was in Prague, and the next one will be held in Thailand in 2023 (delayed due to Covid). The following Congress is scheduled for 2026, when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of AMI.
