Membership Administrator and Event Organiser

Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), an international educational organisation with offices in the South of Amsterdam (Vondel park area), is searching for a versatile and accurate Membership Administrator and Event Organiser for 22.5 hours per week.

The applicant must live in the Amsterdam region.

AMI is a global, not-for-profit organisation established by Maria Montessori in 1929 to maintain the integrity of her life's work. The organisation further supports and encourages quality expressions of Montessori principles in pursuit of social, educational and humanitarian aims in countries throughout the world. Montessori is one of the most widely implemented educational approaches in the world with over 25,000 schools in more than 140 countries. The Montessori movement, however, is far broader and works to assist children, families and adults in a variety of settings. Association Montessori Internationale is an umbrella organisation, with a worldwide network. The Head Office is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and has a team that currently consists of 20 staff members with an additional 5 staff members working remotely. Our staff work with a smile, work for the future and work for the benefit of children everywhere.

Job Purpose 

Memberships are important to AMI. As Membership Administrator you will see to it there is greater focus and intentionality on growing the membership to widen the community with whom AMI has direct contact. You will further the aims and objectives of the Association by increasing the connectivity of AMI with its members and members with one another. 

AMI is involved in organising several in-person events each year such the Annual Global Meeting, Trainer meetings, EsF assemblies and AMI Congress and a number of online events. As Assistant Event Organiser you will assist with planning and implementing events from initiation to completion.

The Membership Administrator and Assistant Event Organiser works alongside all the Teams and is responsible to the Team Leader for Communications with a direct reporting line to the Chief of Staff.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Managing membership database and CRM system. 
  • Professionalise our membership operation to increase the number of fee-paying members and enhance its ability to generate income.
  • Build a membership constituency that can help us in our broader ambitions through influence and advocacy. 
  • Manage and provide service to members resulting in a long-lasting relationship. By working with members on creating a top-quality membership organisation we will create energy, engagement, and inspiration.   
  • Together with the legacy, outreach and pedagogical teams recognise the value of the assets we possess, particularly in terms of unique Montessori content and insights, and use them to engage members and add value to their membership. 
  • Develop and recommend initiatives to encourage individuals with a casual interest in Montessori and child education to become members.    
  • As Assistant Event Organiser you will be part of the team that plans and organises events in all aspects (budgeting, venue, accommodation, programme, logistics, catering, communication, evaluation).

Key Qualities

  • Excellent knowledge of the English language with fluency in English speaking and writing
  • A professional qualification in communications, digital or marketing is preferred 

Desirable Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Digital competence and experience of managing social media channels
  • Experience of working with membership Databases and CRM and able to crosscheck and verify data to track down the appropriate resources and address questions or issues in the copy that might require additional research.
  • Understanding of user experience and content management
  • Experience of working within branding guidelines
  • Networking, teamwork
  • Ability to take ownership of projects, independent and accountable
  • Flexibility: capable of managing multiple tasks to agreed deadlines. 
  • Accurate writing and editing skills with an eye for detail. 
  • Experience in organising international events 
  • Some budget drafting experience
