AMI Joins Global Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action

Thursday 13th July 2023

Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) is proud to have been accepted as a general member of the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (“the Alliance”).  The Alliance’s mission is to support the efforts of humanitarian actors to achieve high-quality and effective child protection interventions in both refugee and non-refugee humanitarian contexts.  The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and World Vision currently co-lead the Alliance.

“AMI has always worked closely with partners to meet the needs of children and families in humanitarian and crisis situations.  Joining the Alliance aligns us with a powerful network where we can collaborate and contribute our skills and experiences to developing even more effective interventions to help people facing the most challenging circumstances,” commented AMI President, Alain Tschudin.

“Membership also represents an important step in achieving our Strategic Plan 2023-2028 commitment to build further connections with like-minded organisations, as we strive to ensure greater access to Montessori education as a path to empowerment, sustainability and peace.”

The Alliance’s work falls into five categories:

  • Standard setting and guidance development
  • Capacity building, learning and development
  • Evidence and knowledge generation
  • Advocacy
  • Convening (to promote knowledge-sharing and technical collaboration).

Four working groups and six task forces provided the focus for more than 175 member organisations to work together. The CPHA Community of Practice provides an online space where over 1500 practitioners have signed up to meet to share updates, resources and experiences.

Alain extended thanks to the coordinators of the Alliance, Hani Mansourian and Camilla Jones, for their support and continued, “Over the coming months we will be engaging with leaders of the different working groups and task forces to establish where we can make the most immediate and meaningful impact.  AMI’s Head of Outreach, Fay Hendriksen and Sharon Lickerman, an AMI representative to the United Nations, will advance these discussions, with the inclusion of a broader network of colleagues.”
