Thevenet Montessori School, Highland Mills

Thevenet Montessori School, in Highland Mills, New York is in the process of actively recruiting and identifying a new Director of the School to begin in August 2025.

Situated on 77 acres of forest and meadows, with hiking trails and a vernal pond, the school currently enrolls 100+ students in Pre-K through Grade 6. The school has 10 full time teachers, some of whom also serve in the before and after school program. Thevenet Montessori School has served the community with excellence since 1971.

The Director of the Thevenet Montessori School serves as the educational leader, responsible for managing the academics, policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, inclusive environment that promotes the Montessori philosophy, curriculum and educational design.

In addition, the Director is responsible for continuous recruiting, training, supervision and evaluation of teachers and all other school personnel, maintaining compliance with local and state regulatory agencies and school policies, overseeing the supervision of fiscal operations, and maintaining the facility.

The ideal candidate is a certified Montessori educator who works collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations. The Director is expected to engage with other projects on the campus to promote integral ecological education.
