2022 AMI Trainers Meeting

Monday 12th December 2022

From 23 to 28 October the Trainers Meeting took place at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, in Italy. It was a delightful time, full of great discussions and companionship after such a long time. The theme of the meeting was “From Origins to Potential”, which provided a framework for a deep reflection on AMI’s history and mission, as well as consideration of the opportunities and challenges as we build the Strategic Plan that will take AMI to its hundredth year.

With more than 70 trainers coming from 20 countries, the first day of the conference invited everyone to take in the broad sweep from the depth and breadth of the origins of Montessori’s social mission to the Montessori archives. Along the way, fascinating speakers presented important reminders of the origin of Maria Montessori's social mission and humanitarianism. On day two, we had some wonderful presentations on the topics of Educating with Soul and the relevance of Barcelona to Montessori’s work. Our colleagues from Montessori Sports and Montessori for Dementia and Ageing also spoke about their remarkable impact. During day three we all engaged in breakout groups divided by levels and listened about the journey through historical connections with Montessori and the work of Montessori in India. Further, interesting presentations concerning themes of multilingualism, language schemes and effective marketing took place on the fourth day. On the last day, the trainers started with a presentation about the Strength of Childhood and neuroscience followed by breakout discussions by levels, closing off with the Gala dinner.
