AMI at UNESCO

Thursday 20th January 2022

Last year, UNESCO held several events in which AMI participated. UNESCO’s 75th anniversary celebration, which took place in 2021, highlighted Montessori’s historic connection in several ways, including an outdoor photo exhibit. It also emphasised Montessori’s instrumental contribution, in 1950, to UNESCO's Institute of Education in Hamburg, called since 2009 the 'UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning'.

At the 2021 UNESCO General Conference Plenary Debates held on on November 13, 2021, AMI Representative, Victoria Barres, was invited to speak on the subject of Montessori education as a ‘wellness approach', beginning with early childhood education, and as a foundation for lifelong learning.
