Corner of Hope Celebrates 10 year Anniversary

Monday 7th December 2020

The first Corner of Hope school was established by AMI in 2010 in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in New Canaan, Nakuru, Kenya, starting out with two mentor teachers, eight teachers in training (members of the camp community) and 200 children who were being taught in tents. Now, 10 years later, the school is the heart of the community, a second school is established, 102 teachers have been trained, at no cost to themselves at either 3-6 or 6-12 levels, and well over 1000 children have received a free high-quality Montessori education and many others have taken inspiration from the transformative nature of this community-led initiative.

As this year marks the 10th anniversary of Corner of Hope, we would like to take the opportunity to look back and highlight the incredible work and dedication of everyone who has contributed to Corner of Hope. We have launched a special page where we will share stories from Corner of Hope, based on the experiences of the teachers, children, community leaders and other key people. It shows the evolution of the initiative and highlights the extraordinary achievements of the Corner of Hope community.
