Are there any courses or workshops on helping those with dementia using Montessori materials and activities?

AMI offers a 12-hour workshop that provides an overview of the key aspects of Montessori for Dementia and Ageing. The workshops are listed on both the AMI website and the Montessori for Dementia and Ageing website.  Many of these workshops are now offered online, and are run by AMI accredited trainers through several training organisations.

The workshop shares how to create meaningful activities and roles by:

  • Focusing on the person, not the dementia.
  • Matching strengths and abilities with personal history.
  • Fostering social connections and friendships.
  • Developing routines that build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Providing cues, prompts, materials and templates to support the person’s memory loss.

After attending the workshop, you can train to become an AMI Montessori for Dementia and Ageing Certified Practitioner. Details on this can be found here
