How has Montessori Education evolved over time?

Montessori Education has certainly evolved during the past 115 years, having begun solely as an approach applicable to 2.5 – 6 year-olds to currently an approach that spans the first 3 of the 4 planes of development (0-6, 6-12, 12-18); additionally, the principles are currently used in training programs to work with the elderly and people with dementia (Montessori for Dementia and Aging or MDA), Montessori Sports, and Montessori School Administration.

Science-based and historical information has also evolved, particularly at the 6-12 level, reflecting current knowledge around science and history.  The basic principles, and the basic approach, have not changed much because it is based on human development, not an educational approach.
