How can I support a 5-year-old in the Casa as they prepare to move to the next developmental stage?

First of all, think about the characteristics of the second plane child. They like to work in a small group, they are moving more to the stage of using the imagination and abstracting the information they have experienced.

Think about any Casa work that can be small group work; e.g., mathematical operations with golden beads; work with the “blind” charts in the math memorization work – each child working with a chart, the “caller” of the equation using the blind chart to record the answer: 4 + 8 = ?

Additionally, the games with the Geometric Cabinet and Cards could become small group work as could some of the exercises with the Function of Words, once they have worked individually on the initial presentations.

In the Language area you could have 2 or 3 children working together to make sentences to be used in the Reading Analysis work. Writing stories would also help prepare them for the elementary work.

Five-year-olds can have additional responsibilities in the Casa, helping younger ones, giving lessons to younger children, etc., allowing them to be the role models in the Casa.
